As the tributes continue to pour in for the late Lou Reed, who died on Sunday at age 71, another Lou who did not have quite the same influence on rock and roll is asking people to stop confusing him with the “Walk on the Wild Side” singer.
As Time notes, Lou Bega, who is best known for his only hit, “Mambo No. 5,” paid tribute to Reed on his Facebook page. He included a picture of himself to prove that he is not the Lou that died. “[I] have been receiving Tons of condolences because of a Journalist confusing our Identities. Lou Bega sends his condolences to [Mr. Reed’s] Family,” he added.
Before Bega made the clarification, he did receive a couple of “RIP Lou Bega” posts on his Facebook page. There were even Twitter users who got confused. “RIP Lou Bega - hope you can mambo in heaven,” one person tweeted.
Meanwhile, one group that would never mix up Lous is the Arctic Monkeys. According to Rolling Stone, the group performed Reed’s biggest hit, “Walk on the Wilde Side,” in Liverpool.
Reed died on Sunday at 71 in New York. The rock legend fronted the Velvet Underground and fans around the world have mourned his passing.
