Last week Friday, an unidentified man set himself on fire at the National Mall.
The man has now been identified as John Constantino, 64, from Mount Lauren, N.J according to Usa Today.
According toFox News, the man died on Friday and DNA was needed to identify him because his burns were so severe. The police still do not know what Mr. Constantino’s motives were for his actions.
Constantino poured gasoline on himself in the center part of the mall before setting himself on fire around 4:20 pm. Bystanders and passersby rushed to the man to help put the fire out; taking off their shirts and smothering the fire.
The La Times had an account from a passerby, Nicole Didyk who saw what happened, “flames on the Mall. ... Not like shooting flames, but the grass was on fire."
Another bystander gave their account, “There was not a lot people could do because it was a gasoline fire,” said Katy Scheflen according toHuffington post.
