An accident at a Mexican airshow left at least eight people dead and many injured when a monster truck crashed into spectators Saturday evening.
The Associated Press reports that during a demolition stunt at the "Extreme Aeroshow,” the monster truck drove over a few cars much too quickly, and witnesses claim that the driver lost control after hitting his head on the truck, driving out of control into the spectators.
"The driver hit his head and his helmet flew off," witness Daniel Dominguez said. "The truck came directly at where we were.''
Another witness, Jesus Manuel Ibarra, 41, was injured by the truck, and reported, "I fell over, and when I turned around I saw the tire very close. It hit me and threw me to the other side."
According to BBC News, the accident was most likely caused by a mechanical failure, since the truck kept accelerating over the cars, but the driver was also reported to be under the influence.
Eight people were killed and 79 injured – 12 are still in intensive care, with four in critical condition.
