On this week’s New Girl, Nick had an emotional breakthrough, Schmidt tried to break Nick and Jess up and Winston tried to get his cat laid.

Winston: Winston was a little unrealistic this week. After taking his cat, Ferguson, to the vet, he discovered that the cat needed to be neutered. Winston, apparently, was heartbroken. Nick and Jess jokingly said that they should give the cat a bachelor party and Winston took their advice seriously. Winston met a girl at a pet store and set up a cat brothel. When the girl came over, she thought it was a date and brought wine. Winston, however, took the cat-sex-date seriously. After drama unfolded with the loft, the girl who brought her cat left, hurt that Winston didn’t take their date seriously. The cat lady really shouldn’t feel bad, after this episode, the entire loft is unlikeable.

I get that Winston is heartbroken and going through a breakup. It stinks to have your girlfriend/whomever Daisy was cheat on you. However, this cat storyline is terrible. Winston is a grown man who honestly thought getting his cat laid was a good idea.

Jess: I felt like tonight was an episode of the Jess and Nick Show. I understand that they are the main characters but there was too much Jess and Nick stuff in the episode that it overwhelmed me. Jess, this episode, had to deal with Schmidt trying to sabotage her relationship and Nick’s inability to talk about his feelings.

In the beginning of the episode, Nick and Jess were just having sex. Jess asked Nick if they could take a break to talk about their feelings or their childhood. Nick didn’t want to and said, instead, that he needed to go move his car.

Schmidt, to freak the couple out, got them a one-month anniversary cake. As he left, Jess said that they shouldn’t worry about him and Nick said that they should. One of the funniest lines of the episode was when Nick told Jess that, after Schmidt created the Billy Zane fan club.

After Nick couldn’t get it up during sex, Jess went to Schmidt for advice. However, she decided not to because he was trying to sabotage them, so Schmidt said it aloud and Jess, stupidly, took his advice. Schmidt said to try “the captain” a sexual position that Jess deemed ‘degrading.’

After doing the move, Nick and Jess realized that Schmidt had set them up and called a loft meeting to take care of it.

Nick: Jess and Nick have been having tons of sex this season. I mean, their entire storyline each episode has surrounded around the fact that they have tons of sex. I get it- they have tons of sex. But it is a waste of time to simply show them in bed the entire time. When Nick finally talked about his feelings, I was actually excited that their storyline was moving.

After not eating the cake that Schmidt gave to him, Nick approached Schmidt and asked him why he was behaving the way that he was. Schmidt said that he was happy for Nick because he was happy. Schmidt repeated that, in past relationships, Nick tends to over think and ruin the relationship. That freaked Nick out and he had a “groundhog day” situation.

After being extremely offended by Jess’s captain sex position, Nick stood up to Schmidt. After doing that, Nick was finally able to talk about his feelings. And boy did Nick have a lot of feelings. He said that he liked the cello, He said he cried when he saw a Zebra give birth. He said that he liked Jess but hated that she talked so much. To impress Jess, Nick unsuccessfully soundproofed his room with egg crates. It was adorable, sweet and a typical Nick Miller move.
Because of the breakthrough, he was able to completely comprehend the relationship and continued to talk about his feelings, ignoring Jess’s seduction. They finally had sex at the end.

Schmidt: Schmidt was in denial this episode. He was putting all of his energy into destroying Nick and Jess so he didn’t have to think about the fact that he had lost not Cece but Elizabeth too. Schmidt spent the entire episode trying to think of ways to break Nick and Jess up. He got into Nick’s head by telling him his fears. He lied to innocent Jess about sex. Winston tried to talk to Schmidt about what to do now that Jess and Nick were together but Schmidt didn’t listen. He continued to go on a rampage.

When Winston called a loft meeting, the four of them talked about their feelings. It was then that Schmidt realized what he was doing. Jess told him that he did a bad thing and that he had to deal with it. And he did.

Schmidt wrote a letter to Cece and put it under her door. When she came out, with a guy, she didn’t take the letter seriously. Cece used the letter to spit out her gum. I would feel sorry for Schmidt if he didn’t put himself in this situation.

This episode really made me miss how New Girl used to be. All of the characters are becoming more and more unlikeable. Jess is no longer the “adorkable” girl and Schmidt is just a total jerk. Watching my favorite characters has slowly become more and more painful.
