Sometimes a major price cut can be a big gamble, but for Nintendo, it certainly has paid off. The video game company said Thursday that sales for the Wii U jumped in September thanks to big price cut.

According to GameIndustry.biz, Nintendo slashed the price of the Wii U Deluxe by $50, which brought it down to $299. A new Wii U bundle was also released, including a downloadable copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the 2002 GameCube game that has gained a sizeable following over the past decade. All that lead to sales of the Wii U jumping 200 percent in September.

Nintendo’s handheld 3DS also scored a fifth consecutive month as the top-selling videogame hardware. The company is hoping that the device’s sales continue to climb, especially with the release of a cheaper 2DS with the new Pokemon games.

Nintendo’s time at the top might be short-lived, though, as Sony is about to launch Playstation 4 and Microsoft is releasing the XBox One soon. But as Entertainment Weekly notes, the Wii U’s price may help, as it is $100 cheaper than the launch price for Playstation 4 and $200 cheaper than XBox One’s price.
