Actress Olga Kurylenko, a one-time Bond girl and Tom Cruise’s co-star in Oblivion, will star in The Water Diviner, the first film to be directed by Oscar winning actor Russell Crowe.
The Water Diviner will be set during World War I, with Crowe starring as an Australian who goes to Turkey during the battle of Gallipoli to find his three missing sons. According to TheWrap, Crowe has picked Kurylenko to play the owner of a hotel where Crowe stays.
Hopscotch Features’ Andrew Mason and Troy Lum (Saving Mr. Banks) and Fear Of God Films’ Keith Rodger (Robin Hood) are producing the indie production, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Mister Smith Entertainment will be selling the project to potential distributors at the American Film Market next month.
Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastassios wrote the screenplay and production will start in Australia in December.
“We anticipate great interest from our buyers in Russell Crowe’s directorial debut,” Mister Smith CEO David Garrett said in a statement to THR. “It is a compelling, emotional story, set across a sweeping landscape, and the strong script together with the casting of international star Olga Kurylenko opposite Russell gives this film huge worldwide appeal.”
Kurylenko recently starred in Terrence Malick’s To The Wonder and the sci-fi film Oblivion with Tom Cruise. She starred in Daniel Craig’s second film as James Bond, Quantum of Solace. She also appeared on the Starz series Magic City.
Crowe will next be seen in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah.
