Miley Cyrus will not get to claim two straight weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart. Pearl Jam’s latest release, Lightning Bolt debuted at No. 1 this week. Paul McCartney’s new album NEW began its chart run at No. 3.
Lightning Bolt sold 166,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan data, reports Billboard. It’s Pearl Jam’s fifth No. 1 album, but it is the lowest sales debut for any of the band’s studio albums. Their last release, Backspacer, sold 189,000 when it debuted in 2009.
Cyrus’ Bangers sold a decent 270,000 copies last week, but it hard into second place this week. It dropped 73 percent, selling only 72,000 copies.
As for McCartney, his NEW album sold 67,000 copies, which was good enough for the No. 3 slot. It is his 19th Top 10 release, excluding Beatles albums. His Kisses on the Bottom started at No. 5 with 74,000 copies last year.
Nothing Was The Same by Drake slid to No. 4 with 58,000 copies, while the Avett Brothers’ Magpie and the Dandelion sold just under 58,000. Magpie has been helped out by the single “Another Is Waiting,” which is No. 16 on Billboard’s Triple A airplay chart.
Scott McCreery’s See You Tonight started with 52,000 copies. The rest of the Top 10 includes Lorde’s Pure Heroine (48,000 copies); Cher’s closer to the Truth (45,000); Willie Nelson’s To All The Girls (43,000); and Head’s Let’s Be Still (42,000).
The Top 10 will probably look different again next week, as Katy Perry’s Prism,/a> was released on Tuesday.
Eminem’s “Rap God” is No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart with 270,000 downloads. Lorde’s “Royals” slipped to No. 2 with 256,000 downloads.
