Penn State University is trying to offer some form of healing to the victims of Jerry Sandusky.

Penn State will pay out $59.7 million to 26 victims, reported USA Today.

In 2011, the university’s assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky had been arrested and charged with sexually abusing young boys on school grounds and in his home. Sandusky was sentenced to 30-60 in prison for his actions.

The coach at the time, Joe Paterno, was fired and later on died from lung cancer. The NCAA placed a Sanction on Paterno, in 2012, and voided 111 of his wins for Penn State reported Huffington Post at the time.

The school stated clearly that the money to pay for the $59.7 million will not come out of tuition, donations, or taxpayer funds, noted Penn State News.

Although the amount will not erase the abuse the victims have suffered, Penn States President Rodney Erickson hoped the school’s actions could be a start toward healing for the victims and the school, “We hope this is another step forward in the healing process for those hurt by Mr. Sandusky, and another step forward for Penn State.”
