Since Charlie Hunnam left just three weeks before Fifty Shades of Grey was to begin production, rumors and questions have been floating around as everyone wonders what really caused him to walk away.
The Hollywood Reporter is wondering whether creative control with the script might have been an issue that caused Hunnam to back out of the project, on top of the fan frenzy that has been building.
While Kelly Marcel wrote the adapted screenplay for Fifty Shades, Hunnam evidently had script notes that he felt would improve things. Sources say these notes were positively received and that may have emboldened Hunnam to continue coming up with script changes, which were turned away. A source said, "That's Charlie, that's who he is. He's particular."
The Sons of Anarchy star spent his whole time reportedly struggling over creating control, even frustrating director Sam Taylor-Johnson, E! News reports.
Shortly thereafter, Hunnam left the project and both sides claiming scheduling conflict.
Another possible issue might have been that Hunnam was reportedly only going to earn $125,000 for the part, which seems low for a project of this nature. It's a similar role to what Robert Pattinson took on for Twilight, yet he was paid $2 million for the first movie.
