For fans of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy, this year’s Evil Dead remake provided hope that the franchise might get started up again, as the original Evil Dead spawned two more sequels. Now, there’s a chance that there could be two Evil Dead franchises going simultaneously as Raimi may be looking to direct Army of Darkness 2.

Fede Alvarez, who directed Sony’s Evil Dead remake, was interacting with fans on Twitter this weekend and one asked if he would be directing Army of Darkness 2. “Sam Raimi will!” the director replied.

As Deadline notes, star Bruce Campbell has recently been talking about doing a sequel to Army of Darkness. It was released in 1993 and upped the ante for the franchise, throwing in time traveling.

Back in March, Campbell and Alvarez said that there will be a sequel to 2013’s Evil Dead, which grossed $97 million worldwide and starred Jane Levy. Alvarez is still working on that and Campbell and Alvarez suggested that there may even be a crossover where Campbell’s character Ash meets Levy’s Mia.

Raimi recently directed Disney’s Oz The Great And Powerful and was a producer on 2013’s Evil Dead. He is also producing a Poltergeist reboot.
