Despite seven Grammys, millions of albums sold, and a passionate fan base, Taylor Swift sometimes has to fight to get a single released. The pop superstar had to ask permission from her record label to write and record her newest song “Sweeter Than Fiction.”
Just last fall, Swift released her fourth album Red, and this September, she wrapped up the U.S. leg of her concert tour. With all the media and radio attention Swift’s received in the past year, her management told her she couldn’t release any new music until her next album.
“I had to fight to do this, because I try to take a break in between albums and try and give people a minute to not hear me on the radio,” Swift said to BBC Newsbeat.
“Sweeter Than Fiction” hit iTunes Monday at midnight, and if successful, it could join Swift’s two other songs that are currently on the Billboard Hot 100.
“I had to go around and ask people, ‘Can I please, please put something out?’ even though we’re supposed to be going quiet,” Swift said.
The Red singer obviously won them over as the song will play during the end credits of the film One Chance, a biopic about Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts.
