One terminally ill Ohio father was determined to keep his promise to walk his daughter down the aisle, even if he had to do it on a hospital gurney.
56-year-old Scott Nagy suffers from metastatic urethral cancer, but that did not stop him from escorting his daughter down the aisle at her wedding Saturday. Holding his 24-year-old daughter Sarah’s hand, he made it down the aisle during her wedding at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Strongsville.
According to NBC News, Nagy had to be connected to both a heart monitor and a portable ventilator, but to him, it was worth it.
"It was a promise I made in March, to walk her down the aisle," Nagy said, reports USA Today. "She's my princess. This is my definition of walking down the aisle."
It was the nurses at the University Hospital's Seidman Cancer Center who made it possible, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Nurse Jacky Uljanic was the one who acted as a pseudo-wedding planner for Nagy, and made sure that, despite issues, the father would walk his daughter down the aisle.
Two paramedics volunteered their services as well as their ambulance in order to transport Nagy to the wedding. A doctor and two nurses were also in attendance, reports NBC.
Nagy was first diagnosed last November. He has been in the Seidman intensive care unit since August, undergoing chemotherapy to battle his illness.
The wedding was originally scheduled for sometime next year, but it was moved up so Nagy would be able to attend and see his daughter get married.
