In last night’s Big Bang Theory, “The Romance Resonance,” the gang is eating at the Cheesecake Factory. Sheldon is not paying attention, as he is sitting at the table with paper and a pen, meticulously working on a formula. Bernadette and Howard arrive late. Bernadette tells the group that she was late at work because a new raccoon virus was discovered. This prompts Howard to tell her that she should go watch her hands. While she is away from the table, Howard tells everyone that his anniversary of their first date is coming up. He says he is writing a song and asks everyone for their help to perform it to her.
Heading back up to the apartment, Leonard and Penny discuss the lack of romance in their relationship, while Sheldon is still in his “zone,” working on the formula. In the apartment, Sheldon finishes his formula and Leonard realizes he just figured out a method for synthesizing a new stable superheavy element.
At the university cafeteria, Howard discusses the song with the guys, asking them if they can play any instruments. Sheldon arrives, excited about his discovery. He explains that it is currently being tested and that Chinese researchers believe that they found the element.
At Penny’s, Raj tries to help her do something romantic for Leonard. He suggests cooking for him, but Penny says that he is too picky. He gives a couple more suggestions that were from movies. He finally tells Penny that is she wants to do something romantic it has to come from her.
At the apartment, Sheldon hands Amy the marker he used in a Ziploc bag just incase the Smithsonian wants it. He then goes to hand her the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics that he used to look up reaction rates. Browsing over the book again, he realizes that he made a mistake. He read a table in square centimeters rather than meters. He says that everything is off. The element, however, was still discovered, but Sheldon believes he is a fraud.
In the car, Sheldon is still upset, saying that this mistake will haunt him for the rest of his life. He wants to find a way to fix it.
At the university cafeteria, Howard, Leonard, and Raj discuss the surprise for Bernadette. Sheldon then arrives and the cafeteria claps. He tells them all to stop celebrating and announces that his discovery was a result of a mistake. They clap for him again, though when he says the element was still found.
The gang is ready with their instruments waiting for Bernadette to arrive. Howard is worried that she is taking so long, so he steps out of the room to try and reach her. While waiting, Amy tells Sheldon that she is embarrassed for him because he misread an easy table and doesn’t deserve credit. Sheldon tells her that was the most romantic thing that he ever heard.
Howard comes back into the room and tells everyone their was an accident at Bernadette’s lab. He said she is okay, but she is in quarantine.
Howard shows up at the lab and talks to Bernadette through glass. She said some of the virus fell to the floor, but she is fine and her being quarantined in just a precaution. She apologizes for ruining that date, but he tells her that he brought it to her. Everyone shows up with instruments and plays he sings the song he wrote for her. The song is clever and contains nerdy references.
Penny and Leonard are having a romantic dinner where she cooked ramen noodles. She then tells him to prepare for romance and she starts dropping rose petals to lead him to the bedroom. She hands him a gift which is a first edition of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. When he doesn’t look that excited, Leonard reminds her that he had bought that book previously when they were at a used bookstore together. Penny is upset and she reveals a box that contains things that she saved from their relationship. Leonard is moved and can’t believe she saved everything.
At the apartment, Sheldon is still upset that he read the table wrong. He turns to Amy and tells her that it is her fault because he has been distracted since he met her. He then says that he want to kiss her. This of course is revealed to be a daydream that Amy is having while she is eating lunch with him at the Cheesecake Factory.
