The Vantage is an alternative duo based in Austin, TX. And if you haven’t heard of them already, you probably will soon.

The duo which consists of James Mason (vocals) and Jackson Wise (guitar, vocals), has performed at SXSW last spring, which is quite impressive. And now they’re onto new musical ventures.

The boys are working diligently on their debut studio album that’s expected to drop in the spring of 2014. In the meantime, they’re re-releasing their Summer EP under the new name, This Time Now. The EP will be released on November 26.

So, here’s the track-by-track review of This Time Now. But let me warn you first- all the songs have these addictive hooks that will get stuck in your head on repeat.

So, let’s start…

Changes

Starts of with a hazy guitar intro, but then it gets more upbeat featuring some seriously addictive instrumentals. Would you fix me up baby/I’ll put my heart back in… is my favorite transition in the song. And you’ll probably end up singing or humming the chorus- But it’s time we make these changes, ch-ch-changes… It’s very catchy.

On My Way

Is a duo’s very popular single. It has an island tribal sound and feel to it. Mason’s voice combined with chorus-like vocals will make you sing along. I’m on my way, on my way, I’m on my… This song has been featured on ABC Family’s The Vineyard and the video should be coming out soon. (Check out the teaser here.)

Something In The Air

Is a beautiful upbeat love ballad. It starts of with clear guitar sound, but then it’s accompanied by the drums that pick up its tempo. It is a very lighthearted track., with lyrics that go: Something in the air/but I don’t know what, I don’t know what it is… But it feels like/ feels like singing…

Chasing After You

Is a very chill track that slows down in the chorus and features a very seductive guitar riff. It is a perfect slow-dancing song. It gets you hooked right of the bat with: She shines like a diamond/cuts like a blade…

From The Start

Is an acoustic guitar love ballad accompanied by sentimental vocals. And I must say that I loved this song from the start. No complications with this one, no fancy production, just the guitar and vocals. A simply beautiful track.

City I’m Dreaming Of

Is an upbeat song that features dreamy and hazy vocals and some finger snapping, It speeds up in the middle and transitions into an amazing guitar riff by the end of the song.

Overall, This Time Now is playful, fun, sentimental and a very cohesive EP. The Vantage has a great future ahead of them. And wait...they’re not signed yet?!
