The Fray is known for piano solos and the vocal talents of Isaac Slade but with the release of the bands latest single, “Love Don’t Die” the band is out to prove their sound and musical style is going in a new direction.
Within the first few seconds of “Love Don’t Die” the vibe of the single is different than any other Fray song. This single is driven by heavy drumbeats and an earthy, almost organic tone. Along with drumbeats and guitar rifts, clapping can be heard throughout the song.
Slade’s signature vocal style is showcased on the record. Slade has added a gritty tone to his vocal performance to compliment the instrumentals of the single which takes The Fray's sound to a new level. Two minutes into the song is when Slade really pushes his ability to match his vocals to the atmosphere created by the song.
This single feels like a natural musical advancement for The Fray and highlights the bands need for musical experimentation. If “Love Don’t Die,” is any indication, the next album from The Fray is going to be a new direction for the rock/pop band but the change is coming at a perfect time. The Fray still has signature elements throughout the single but something new might be what they need to reenergize their fan base and push their musical sound to a larger listening audience.
