Pop rock band The Strange Familiar, has released their new EP Surrender on October 8. The EP comes after band’s over a yearlong break and it’s absolutely exquisite.

1. The opening track “Gone” is a stunning and heartbreaking pop rock track composed of vocals that vary from sentimental and blue to strong and powerful. The vocals are overlapped with energetic drums and luxuriant guitars and an underlying piano that varies from coy and emotional to ecstatic.

2. “Painkiller” is a gorgeous ballad dominated by an up-tempo piano and passionate drums, accompanied by sinewy vocals.

3. “We All Fall Down” is another ballad focused on delicate piano and opulent vocals, but with prevailing drums. With lyrics, “When will you forgive yourself, so you can give your life to someone else…you know we all fall down…” this track is less somber than the previous two.

4. The title track “Surrender” is quite different from any other track on the EP. Its mighty and enthralling vocals and heavy drums create a riotous love song that with the energetic repetition of “love keeps marching, “gets absolutely euphoric by the end.

5.“Except To You” is the last track of the EP that starts of with tender piano and angelic vocals and then it gets more intense with dominant rolling drums and torrid and lush vocals.

All in all, Surrender is a great EP. A little dark and a little heartbroken, but exudes power through its grandiose instrumentals and mesmerizing vocals.
