I have long been a fan of board games, I think they are a great ice breaker, perfect for parties, and it sure beats watching TV (from a parents perspective). But board games combined with yoga, that is like a dream come true.
My daughter has been doing yoga with me since before she could crawl. She could do a downward dog before she started to walk. So when I was given the opportunity to review two new games from Upside Down Games, a California based company committed to helping children grow in a socially responsible and eco-conscious way, I was pretty excited.
The Yoga Spinner , is compact, fun, and physical game.
Spin the wheel, pick a card, and either answer a question or perform a yoga pose. If you choose to do the yoga pose then hold it for 10 seconds without either laughing or falling down and you keep the card. Collect one card of each color to win the game!
The Magic Path of Yoga is like candyland for yogis. Roll the dice, then either perform a pose or answer a question about nutrition or the environment. The first person to get to "OM" wins, hehe. The game comes with a booklet detailing 85 different yoga poses. And there is a soft version of the game that inlcudes a yoga mat.
Both games are great for yoga aficionados and newbies alike. I could see either of these as a great addition to a yoga teacher training program, or part of a mommy and me family yoga class.
As if I needed another reason to like them, Upside Down Games as a company is committed to helping children grow through play, and the founders are yogis, healthcare professionals, and educators. The materials are sourced from responsible materials and follow responsible manufacturing processes.
As a parent, I love the idea of a game that not only gets kids moving, but gets them thinking.
If you are looking for a gift that is unique, yet fun, and will get the whole family moving, then look no further!
Available on Amazon or directly from Upside Down Games the Yoga Spinner ratails for $15.99 and The Magic Path of Yoga for $29.99.
