Tom Cruise must have enjoyed working with Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski on Oblivion. The two will reteam for Go Like Hell, a new project set up at Fox.
Sources for TheWrap say that the deal isn’t done yet, but the two have started negotiations with the studio to create Go Like Hell as a new Cruise vehicle.
The project is based on the book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans by A.J. Baime and is set in the 1960s. Cruise would play Henry Ford II, who is trying to revive the Ford Motor Company in the sports car world with the help of visionary Lee Iacocca and engineer Carroll Shelby. The three were hoping to break into the European sports car market by directly competing with Enzo Ferrari, the top man in the business. Their ultimate goal is to create a car that can win Le Mans.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this was once a project Michael Mann (Heat, Public Enemies) was attached to direct, but he has since dropped out. But with Kosinski on board, Fox is hoping to put it in high gear and get production started next year.
Lucas Foster and Alex Young will produce.
Oblivion grossed $286 million worldwide. Cruise will next be seen in Edge of Tomorrow in June and will make Mission: Impossible 5 before Go Like Hell.
Kosinski had been linked to a Twilight Zone movie, but there hasn’t been word on that since August. He is also looking to make a Tron: Legacy follow-up.
