Tori Spelling, the former Beverly Hills 90210 actress, said in a new interview that she is so strapped for cash that she can’t even afford to get her husband Dean McDermott a vasectomy.
Spelling recently spoke with People magazine ahead of the release of her new memoir, Spelling It Out. According to ETOnline, Spelling said that since they do not have a show on television right now, their cash flow has stalled.
“We're in the entertainment business, and things change year to year,” Spelling told the magazine. “We don't have a series on the air right now, so we have to be more restrictive of what we can spend, just like anyone who doesn't currently have a steady job.”
It comes as a surprise that Spelling would have cash problems, since her father is the late TV mogul Aaron Spelling. But she blames her upscale childhood for her current problems in the memoir.
“It's no mystery why I have money problems. I grew up rich beyond anyone's dreams. I never knew anything else,” Spelling writes in the memoir, notes The Daily Mail. “Even when I try to embrace a simpler lifestyle I can't seem to let go of my expensive tastes. And then there's my shopping problem. I've bought ridiculous amounts of stuff for the kids, clothing, toys, crafts.”
The couple started encountering tough financial times when they sold their Encino home in 2011 after the InvenTORI boutique failed. Her reality show Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood was also cancelled.
“I haven't bought a purse in three years, and it's fine,” Spelling said. “I look back at that girl who shopped at Gucci in my 20s, and I can't even relate. I can't believe I thought it was important.”
Spelling and former 90210 costar Jennie Garth did sign on to do an ABC Family pilot, so she does have that to look forward to.
