Whether it is in greed or love, people are striving to make their desires a reality in this week’s new releases. Temptation causes a man’s world to crumble in a new crime drama featuring an all-star cast.
A lawyer, normally on the straight and narrow, participates in an illegal operation in The Counselor. Despite living the high life with all of the luxuries he could need, his pride drives him to gain more by taking part in a drug deal. What he thought was an easy money making plan, ends up causing death and destruction. The one hour and fifty-seven minute crime drama is directed by Gladiator’s Ridley Scott and stars Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt. It’s rated R for violence, sex and language.
Johnny Knoxville plays 86-year-old Iriving Zisman in the hidden camera film Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. Accompanied by his 8-year-old grandson, Irving sets out on a cross country adventure introducing the youngster to all different types of people and cultures. The one hour and thirty-two minute comedy features real life reactions from innocent bystanders to the Jackass team’s antics. The film is rated R for sex, language, nudity and drugs.
A 15-year-old girl discovers her sexuality in the limited released film Blue is the Warmest Color. Looking for love, the teenager starts a relationship with a male classmate, but ends up fantasizing about a young woman with blue hair that she met in the street. That same woman walks back into her life and causes her to express her desires as she ventures into womanhood. The coming of age drama runs for two hours and fifty-nine minutes. It’s rated NC-17.
When the CEO of a French bank collapses, a young executive takes over in Capital. His rise to power and money is halted when an American hedge fund gets into the mix. Greed and deception wreak havoc on the company and the players looking to get a piece. The one hour and fifty-three minute drama is available in limited theaters. It’s rated R for sex, language and drugs.
Set during World War II, The Pin tells the story of two young lovers in Lithuania hiding from the Nazis. Many years later, the man, now an old religious watchman, finds the body of his young love and relives their heartbreaking story. The limited released drama runs for one hour and twenty-three minutes. The Canadian Yiddish-language film is subtitled in English. It’s rated R for sex and nudity.
Stars united for this week’s crime drama The Counselor. Next week, legendary actors join forces for the comedy Last Vegas. Nov. 1 is also the release of the animated film Free Birds and the sci-fi adventure Ender’s Game.
