This week on Trophy Wife, Kate found herself dealing with the struggles involved with raising a teenager. Even with four parents, things still remain a bit uncontrollable.

As Kate is making breakfast for the kids and Pete, Hillary enters the kitchen in an unusually happy mood. After questioning the reason for her good mood, Pete is shocked by Hillary’s short shorts. He asks Kate if that’s appropriate youth attire. Kate, not wanting to make her relationship with Hillary any worse, says Hillary looks “bangin’.” Hillary criticizes Kate’s use of the word “bangin’” as she walks away. Jackie then joins the family to pick up Bert for a play date. When Kate asks her how she entered the house, Jackie nonchalantly admits to using the doggie door. Bert, who has randomly started speaking Yiddish, leaves with Jackie.

Pete then receives a Call from Diane, who informs him that Hillary snuck out last weekend while she was with Pete and “hooked up” with a boy named Ace McBrady. Pete asks Kate what “hooked up” means? Kate, not wanting to worry Pete, suggests that maybe Hillary just kissed the boy. Pete asks, “Or?” Kate, begging him not to make her say it, is saved by Warren who yells out, “Sex!” Diane commands Pete to search through Hillary’s room. She even demands that he reads Hillary’s diary if he finds it. Kate urges him not to invade Hillary’s privacy, but rather treat her with respect and talk to her.

While driving Bert, Jackie goes on and on about a new jewelry hobby/business. She wants to sell jewelry at a store owned by his friend’s mother. Jackie claims this has been her dream for a “long time, like weeks.” She quickly realizes her daydreaming has unexpectedly landed her on the freeway instead of on their way to her house.

Pete decides to listen to Kate and questions Hillary about what she did last weekend. Hillary lies to his face, which upsets him. He decides his only option is to snoop: “Call me Dr. Dre, ‘cause I’m about to Snoop Dogg.” Kate chooses to stay out of the room as Pete asks if he should cut Hillary’s mattress open. Unable to find anything of substance in her room, Pete resorts to searching Hillary’s computer. Kate urges him not to violate her privacy like that. Pete repeatedly tries searching “Ace McBrady”, “Ace McBrady cute boy”, and “Ace McBrady hot guy”, coming up with nothing. He then realizes that instead of typing in the search bar, he’s really been updating Hillary’s status. Kate and Pete hear Hillary return and quickly escape her room. Hillary opens her computer and screams. Pete says to Kate, “You think she saw it?”

Diane arrives and Pete explains that Hillary is very mad at him, but hilariously suggests she should be mad at the web designer instead. Diane claims Hillary has no reason to be mad because she started it. Diane, acting disgusted at Pete’s actions, comforts Hillary. Realizing Diane threw him under the bus, Pete tricks Diane into admitting she was the mastermind behind the snooping. Hillary, now angry with both of her parents, runs to her room. Kate volunteers to help so they can avoid an “Orson Wellean future.” Diane asks if Kate only thinks she can do it because she was a teenager just a couple of years ago.

At Bert’s play date, Jackie is desperately trying to get his friend’s mother to sell her jewelry. Jackie and Bert are both wearing tons of her handmade jewelry. Bert then comes over and suggests that the mother sell Jackie’s jewelry in her shop.

Kate enters Hillary’s room hoping to get Hillary to think of her as a friend. Hillary feels violated and embarrassed because of the actions of her mother and father. Kate tries to explain that Pete and Diane are just trying to do what is best for Hillary. Hillary, playing on Kate’s desperate desire to connect with her, asks Kate if she can go a party tonight. Kate says no because she’s grounded. Hillary then asks if she can go to the movies because she just needs to talk to a friend. Kate agrees to talk try to convince Diane and Pete to let Hillary go.

Meanwhile, Jackie succeeds at getting her jewelry pieces placed in the shop. She’s told to have fifty pieces ready. Jackie confesses to Bert that she only has thirty pieces completed and it takes a good four days to make one piece. Bert hilariously replies, “Oy vey! We have to get to work.”

Diane agrees with Kate to let Hillary go to the movies, but Pete is against it. As Kate goes to inform Hillary she can go, Diane explains she just bought more time to snoop through Hillary’s room.

Bert helps Jackie make her jewelry. When she’s ready to call it quits for the night, he panics because she doesn’t have enough done. She assures him that they’ll work on it tomorrow. Bert asks if Warren can come over if he’s not busy. She agrees and they both have a little chuckle when she suggests that Warren most definitely doesn’t have anything going on.

Kate and her best friend Meg drop Hillary off at the cinema. They then stop at the ATM across the street and notice Hillary getting into another car and leaving the cinema to head to a party. As Kate and Meg follow Hillary, Diane, who is starting to cut Hillary’s mattress open, receives a message about a party. They realize Hillary has gone to the party. Pete asks how she found out about the party. Diane confesses that she created a fake profile for a girl named Courtney in order to spy on their kids. Pete tells her he is feeling every emotion, including fear, disgust, and pride.

Jackie walks in on Bert forcing Warren to make the needed jewelry. Bert assures Jackie that he is paying Warren. Pete, desperate to find out where the party is, calls Warren. Warren doesn’t know where the party is. He asks Pete, “Dad, if you figure out where the party is, can I come?” Diane resorts to using the fake profile for Courtney to find out the location of the party.

Kate and Meg crash the party. Meg walks around looking for booze to confiscate, but only comes away with a piece of pizza. Diane and Pete arrive, further embarrassing Hillary. As the family argues, a boy intervenes to ask them to leave. They realize he is Ace McBrady. His real name is Martin. His nickname is “Ace” because he aces every test. Meg says the “party sucks” as it is lacking in alcohol and they shouldn’t worry about Hillary if that’s the kind of party she’s attending. Warren disagrees as he exclaims that it’s the best party he’s ever been to. Even though they’ve realized they have nothing to worry about, they still take Hillary home because she is grounded. As they exit, one of Hillary’s friends rudely says she can’t believe Hillary still gets grounded. Diane asks the girl if she’s Courtney’s best friend. The girl replies yes and Diane whispers in her ear that she is Courtney. As they walk away, Pete admits that Kate has just as much experience raising a teen as he does. She asks, “What about Warren?” Pete replies, “Warren’s a unique case,” as Warren weirdly walks down the street making fart noises.”

The episode ends with Warren messaging Courtney to ask her out on a date, not knowing that it’s really his mother Diane. She replies by telling him he’s really handsome, but she “only dates boys with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.” Warren shouts out that he will earn Courtney’s love as he opens a book to study.
