A Montana man whose dog ate his money is sitting pretty on a $500 check from the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Wayne Klinkel claims that while he and his wife were on a road trip, they stopped for a bite to eat and left their 12-year-old dog, Sundance, in the car. Sundance decided he wanted a meal, too, and began to snack on the cash that was tucked away in the car’s console – five $100 bills.

"He's been notorious for eating paper products. I knew right away what had happened," Klinkel said, according to Yahoo News.

Klinkel was forced to collect all of the golden retriever’s droppings for days and dissect them to find the remains of the money.

Klinkel then sent the pieces of money to the U.S. Treasury with an explanation of what had happened. The Treasury responded with a check for $500.

According to the Huffington Post, Klinkel joked, "It was great to get the check after all the crap I went through!”
