I present to you the early review of Ula Ruth’s Restless Nights EP that’s due on January 14. Before I move on to the music, here’s a little background to get you acquainted with the band.

The Connecticut based quartette is consisted of Nicholas James (leading vocals and guitar), Dean Miller (guitar), Kevin Clymer (bass) and Lucas James (drums).

The name of the band has been explained on band’s official website:

“Ula Ruth grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Raised Southern Baptist, she found her voice singing in church. She grew up with nothing, and dreamed of becoming something. She left home at an early age with the hopes of becoming a singer in New York City. One day she found fame, but they made her change her name. So now we are taking it back. “

Quite interesting and creative, don’t you think?

Now, let’s move on to the music. The Indie Rock ‘n’ Roll band from suburbia (as stated on their Twitter page), creates music that stylistically and sonically, is a blend of indie rock and garage rock. And that’s just how the Restless Nights sounds. The rolling drums, retro guitars and potent vocals and a fresh approach to typical life’s themes, permeated with the sense of nostalgia, make Restless Nights a real musical gem.

My absolute favorite track on the album is “Let Down.” It’s fun, upbeat and captivating. The dominating playful drums, intense guitars and passionate vocals make “Let Down” such an addictive track.

Other tracks included that are equally good are:

Bass dominated “Shake It Off ” that has been spiced up with rolling drums.

“Loser” which happens to be a very upbeat track with an attitude and some really addictive retro-tastic drums.

“Runaway” has an awesome bass line that combined with sentimental vocals, totally knocked me off my feet.

Then we have “The End” consisted of powerful vocals, floating guitar sound and striking drums.

And finally “Too Late Tonight” is a love song that with sentimental vocals, resonating guitars and heavy drums, wraps the album up with the sense of heaviness, melancholy and heartache. But at the same time it happens to be very hopeful.

Overall, Restless Nights is an absolute musical gem that will appeal to anyone craving a good old sound of guitars and drums, combined with powerful yet sensitive vocals and inwrought with nostalgia.
