Last year, Universal scored a surprise hit with Seth MacFarlane’s directorial debut, Ted. Now, the studio is ready to bring back the Family Guy creator’s foul-mouthed teddy bear back for another round. Mark Wahlberg will also return to the fold.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ted 2 will be released on June 26, 2015. MacFarlane will co-write, direct and voice the talking teddy bear again and Wahlberg is attached to star. Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild will also work on the script.
Bluegrass Films' Scott Stuber is producing with MacFarlane, John Jacobs and Jason Clark.
According to Box Office Mojo, the original Ted cost just $50 million to make and went on to gross $218.8 million domestically and another $330 million overseas. It opened to $54.4 million and is the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy in box office history.
Entertainment Weekly notes that it is not known if Mila Kunis, who played Wahlberg’s girlfriend in the original, will be returning.
MacFarlane’s Family Guy recently kicked off its 12th season on Fox.
