Nic Pizzolatto, creator and writer of True Detecitve, has been hired by Universal to write the script for The Rockford Files movie.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed the news that Pizzolatto was brought in to write the script. He comes in to replace David Levien and Brian Koppelman.

The movie will be based off the James Garner series from the mid-70s, which was about a private investigator that is hired to solve cold cases while living in a mobile home. The series ran from 1974 to 1980. Vince Vaughn was cast to play Rockford in the film.

Pizzolatto has become a hot name as of late after creating and writing all eight episode of the upcoming HBO miniseries True Detective. His particular style and voice as a novelist made the transition to film and TV quite easy.

A new trailer of the series starring Woody Harrelson and the rejuvenated Matthew McConaughey was released, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The miniseries is about two detectives look back into a case they investigated about a serial killer in 1995. True Detective debuts on HBO Jan. 12, 2014.
