Will Smith is reportedly attached to star in a supernatural thriller from 20th Century Fox titled Selling Time.
According to TheWrap, which first reported the news, a deal with Smith isn’t concrete just yet, but he is close to signing the dotted line. The site notes that Smith was attached to the project a few years ago, but his schedule had gotten in the way at that time.
There’s still no director attached, even though several top-shelf filmmakers are interested. It was written by Dan McDermott, who has agreed to re-write his own script. Spike Lee, brothers Steven and Derick Martini and others have worked on it in the past.
Selling Time is about a man who decides to shave seven years off his life expectancy in order to relive the worst day of his life over and over again. Davis Entertainment’s John Davis is producing with Jennifer Klein.
Smith is currently working on Warner Bros.’ Focus. He’s looking to rebound from the summer box office flop After Earth, which only grossed $60 million domestically.
Another upcoming project may be the sequel to Independence Day, but the details on that haven’t been ironed out. He might only make a cameo and Michael B. Jordan is reportedly in the running for a part.
