12 Years A Slave and Fruitvale Station are among five films that film fans can vote for to receive the Gotham Independent Film Award. The two acclaimed films beat out several other indie favorites in the first round of voting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave and Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station will be competing with Best Kept Secret and the documentaries Don't Stop Believin': Everyman' s Journey and Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings.

Each film had to win an audience award at any of the Top 50 U.S. and Canada film festivals from last December through October in order to qualify. However, voters can be from the independent film community and film fans from around the world. Voting starts tomorrow and ends on Nov. 24. You can place your votes here.

First round voting started on Oct. 24, when the nominees for the Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced. 12 Years A Slave earned three nominations, while Fruitvale Station earned two.
