Paramount made two major changes to its schedule, with one change making an immediate impact, while the other isn’t something moviegoers will have to be afraid of for awhile.
Up first is a new date for Anchorman: The Legend Continues. The sequel to the cult 2004 film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy has been promoted by the studio to the point of overkill, so it has decided to move up its release by two days. According to Box Office Mojo’s schedule, the film will now be out on Wednesday, Dec. 18 instead of Friday, Dec. 20.
The Legend Continues has Will Ferrell coming back as Ron Burgundy and the character has been everywhere. Burgundy has appeared in car commercials, will have a college name a building after him and there will be a ‘memoir.’ It’s safe to say that Paramount has spared no expense in making sure that everyone knows Ron Burgundy is back.
Still, as TheWrap notes, this Christmas will offer movie fans more options than they’ll know what to do with. American Hustle also opens on Dec. 18 and Saving Mr. Banks and Inside Llewyn Davis go wide. The Wolf of Wall Street (another Paramount movie) opens on Christmas Day.
The other news from Paramount concerns the Friday the 13th franchise. The horror series, which focuses on Jason Voorhees. will be back in theaters on March 13, 2015. Friday the 13 kicked off in 1980. The Final Chapter was released in 1987, but a reboot was released in 2009. Since the new version is just titled Friday the 13th, this could be another reboot.
