Just when you thought the studios were done piling up the blockbusters for summer 2015, they announce another one. Warner Bros. said yesterday that Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth film in a franchise that hasn’t had a new movie since 1985, will hit the big screen in May 2015.

Fury Road has been in the works since 2009 and both stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. Jack the Giant Slayer’s Nicholas Hoult also stars. George Miller, who directed all three films, has returned to helm the new movie.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has announced that the film will be released on May 15, 2015, just two weeks after Avengers: Age of Ultron opens on May 1. It’s also a week before another Disney film, Tomorrowland.

The Mad Max franchise kicked off in 1979 and made Mel Gibson an international star. It was followed with sequels in 1981 and 1985. According to Fury Road’s IMDb page, Gibson does have a small role in the new 3D film.

Fury Road was written by Miller, Nick Lathouris and Brendan McCarthy and produced by Miller, Doug Mitchell and P.J. Voeten.

According to Box Office Mojo’s schedule, two other films are coming out in May 2015: Fox’s Susan Cooper on May 22 and Paramount’s Monster Trucks on May 29.
