The Muppets are going international, but it turns out that it really isn’t easy being green. The first full trailer for Muppets Most Wanted gives a lot of plot details away for fans and promotes the usual cameos in the film.
The trailer, which runs two minutes and 20 seconds, reveals that there is an international criminal out there who looks freakishly like our beloved Kermit the Frog. The only way to tell the difference is that the criminal has a mole and an accent. Somehow, the criminal captures Kermit and disguises himself to hide from the police. Kermit gets captured and thrown in a Russian prison with a guard played by 30 Rock’s Tina Fey.
We also learn that Sam Eagle is actually a member of the CIA and he teams up with his French counterpart, Modern Family’s Ty Burrell. Ricky Gervais is also on hand to help the rest of the Muppets gang save Kermit.
It’s interesting that Walter, the character who gathered up the Muppets in 2011’s The Muppets, gets another key role. Hopefully, Walter doesn’t get in the way of more traditional Muppet mayhem.
The film is directed by James Bobin. Jason Segel was too busy to take part in the new film.
Muppets Most Wanted hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
