In seasons past, especially Spring 2013, the night after performances on NBC’s The Voice iTunes Top 100 is lit up like a Christmas tree with singles from the contestants but after the first two-nights, downloads look slim, but not without promise.
As of the morning of November 6, iTunes Store Top 10 Songs in the US reported only one lone contestant breaking through, Adam Levine team member James Wolpert with his version of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You” charting at No. 4. Surprisingly, this is two days after his performance. Another Voice performance was No. 1 but was with coach Christina Aguilera’s standing-ovation-earning duet with A Great Big World on the latter’s song “Say Something”. Looking further than the Top 10 does show a rise and the potential in more contestants breaking through.
Caroline Pennell would really be considered the big winner in the Top 100 though with her version of The White Stripes “We’re Going To Be Friends” reaching number 11, and reaching No. 9 on the Top 10 Pop Songs, as well as two more in the Top 100 with “The Way I Am” at No. 44 and “As Long As You Love Me” at No. 82.
While other’s are scattered about as well throughout the Top 100, the Top 10 Rock Songs is where The Voice dominated this week. Four in the top 5; Austin Jenckes version of “She Talks To Angels” at No. 1, Cole Vosbury’s “Maggie May” at No. 2, Ray Boudreaux’s “Home” at No. 3 and Jonny Gray’s “Bittersweet Symphony” at No. 5. Original versions of “Bittersweet Symphony”, “She Talks To Angels” and “Home” also cracked that Top 10.
With rock songs dominating iTunes it’s still a mixed bag on who might be safe and who will be going home which should make some interesting TV on the results show tomorrow on The Voice.
