Gina Johnson, an American Humane Association monitor, left her job after an investigative report by The Hollywood Reporter was released, which contained emails she had sent about the tiger in Life of Pi nearly drowning.
In an email Johnson wrote about how the tiger, King, nearly died while they filmed scenes for the Life of Pi, Sydney Morning Herald reports. "Last week we almost f---ing killed King in the water tank."
She added, "This one take with him went really bad and he got lost trying to swim to the side. Damn near drowned." Then Johnson mentioned how she was trying to cover up the incident. "I think this goes without saying but don't mention it to anyone, especially the office!"
The AHA monitor added, "I have downloaded the f--- out of it."
Now The Hollywood Reporter notes that since their "Animals Were Harmed" story was published, Johnson has left her job with the AHA.
In a statement, the AHA contends that THR "distorts" the organizations work and claims that they do an excellent job keeping animals safe, with a safety record of 99.98. Some insiders claim that the number is bogus. "It's a total B.S. number made up for PR purposes."
The insider said that numbers are undercounted and don't include any numbers from transporting animals or while they are at the holding facility.
