Sure, today’s top pop icons walked away with arms full of awards at the American Music Awards, but as usual, Lady Gaga got attention for her outrageous red carpet appearance on a horse.

Gaga showed up at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles wearing a gown with her hair down, riding a white horse. It wasn’t a real horse, of course, but a human operated one, with two men underneath. It wound up being an eight-legged horse, especially since the men weren’t exactly hidden under there.

As for her performance, she and R. Kelly reunited after their frisky Saturday Night Live performance to do “Do What U Want.” As E! News notes, the two got racy again, this time in an oval office set. Kelly got to be “President Robert” with Gaga as his secretary.

Miley Cyrus actually wore clothes on the red carpet, but her performance was still odd. She wore a skimpy two-piece outfit as she sang “Wrecking Ball.”No Robin Thicke this time, but she did have a singing cat on the screen.

The surviving members of TLC performed “Waterfalls” with Lil Mama as their “special guest,” notes CNN. Monica Fenty, Rihanna’s mother, presented her daughter the Icon Award.

"Rihanna, I'm so proud of you tonight," she said. "I know the journey in your career has not always been an easy one, but tonight I applaud and admire you."

As for the winners, which are chosen by fans, Taylor Swift walked away with four awards, including Artist of the Year. Single of the Year went to “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line with Nelly. While Justin Timberlake didn’t win Artist of the Year, he did take home wins for Favorite Male Artist (Pop/Rock), Favorite Male Artist (Soul/R&B) and Favorite Album (Soul/R&B) for The 20/20 Experience.
