Recent events at the Andy Kaufman Awards on Monday have once again sparked rumors that the comic might actually be alive; or it's still all a giant hoax.

According to The Telegraph, during the Awards, Kaufman's brother Michael took the stage and claimed that he had a letter from his brother, who passed away of lung cancer in 1984.

He had come into the letter in 1999 after visiting a restaurant he noted that Andy had claimed he would go eat at if he faked his own death. When he went to the restaurant a waitress handed him the letter. Michael said that the letter detailed that he hadn't really died, but instead had gone into hiding to be with someone he loved. The letter also asked for Michael to keep it quiet until their father, Stanley, died.

Afterwards, a woman who claims to be Andy's daughter took the stage, People reports. She claimed Andy was still alive and that she wanted to meet Michael because of the award's show.

Supposedly though, some audience at the show said the 24-year-old was a theater student. The manager at the Gotham Comedy Club, Ed Cavanagh, said to The Hollywood Reporter: "You could see by the look on [Michael's] face that [the story] had an emotional impact on him."

The showroom manager added, "I don't know whether somebody is perpetrating something on [Michael] or not. I'm truly 50-50 on this one."
