This week’s episode of Arrow, “Keep Your Enemies Closer,” gets pretty dangerous for Diggle, and possibly equally intense for Oliver and Isabel.
We find the Hood and Diggle, yet again, cracking down on the local gang activity. After the deed is done, Diggle abducted by A.R.G.U.S., his ex-wife’s employer. Agent Michaels has gone black in Russia, and an A.R.G.U.S. higher up wants Diggle to go after her. The higher up knows that unless Diggle does it, Agent Michaels is as good as dead. To help a friend, Oliver arranges a business meeting to Moscow. They won’t leave without a hitch, though, because just as Oliver, Felicity, and Diggle were getting on the airplane, Isabel drives up behind them and asks them where they’re going. Before they know it, Isabel is joining them on their business trip to Moscow.
In Moscow, Oliver gathers information from an old friend about the whereabouts of Agent Michaels. Diggle, Oliver, and Felicity formulate a plan to free Diggle’s ex-wife.The plan is to carry a lot of drugs, enough that when the police pick him up, he’ll go to the high security prison holding Agent Michaels.
Meanwhile, back in the States, Thea and Roy are on the rocks. Mrs. Queen’s lawyer thinks it would be for the best if Thea called it quits with Roy. He’s a borderline vigilante, and the Queen name cannot be associated with that. Thea tells Roy she needs some space.
After being involved in a prison fight, Diggle gets put in a freezer as punishment. He looks up from the frozen floor to see one eye looking back at him on the other side of the room: Deadshot’s. He’s also been handcuffed in the freezer, and Diggle would have killed him on sight if he wasn’t in the same predicament.
Oliver and Isabel connect over vodka in the hotel bar, followed by some connecting under the sheets back in the hotel room. Afterward, just as Oliver opens the door, Felicity knocks. He opens, and Isabel steps out, telling Oliver, “You should give her the night off.” Felicity, obviously furious with Oliver, tells him it’s time to get to work.
Together, Deadshot and Diggle make it out of the freezer, and Deadshot leads him to Agent Michaels. They find her, and at that moment, Diggle has the opportunity to kill Deadshot, his father’s murderer, once and for all. Deadshot tells him it wasn’t personal - it was just another job, a job for an organization called H.I.V.E.
Thea gets a call to visit the jail - her mother requested to speak with her. There, Thea finds Roy with her mother. Mrs. Queen wants Thea to be with Roy because their happiness is more important than the trial.
When they get back to Moscow, Oliver tells Felicity that, with the life he leads, he doesn’t want to get too close to anyone he could really hurt.
