Rock ‘n’ roll has transitioned into 2013 from loud guitar solos to acoustic guitars and folk driven vocals. Bands like Mumford and Sons have put this new type of rock infused folk music on the musical map, which is why it is no surprise that other bands have followed suit.

Alternative rock group, Brick + Mortar have created a musical sound that is unique and really fits into this interesting new area of rock ‘n’ roll. Brick + Mortar has combined a traditional rock ‘n’ roll vocal style with heavy folk influences. The guitars are powerful and help to bring a full sound to the album but Brick + Mortar feel like they are still discovering their musical sound.

Bangs is a great introduction for Brick + Mortar but the band has to come together and really decide on a musical direction before moving forward. The exploration of discovering their sound as a band will help move their music forward. This experimentation is something for which fans will be grateful.

In a few years, Brick + Mortar will really have the experience to help push their sound to a mainstream level.

Stand out tracks on the album include, “Old Boy,” “Heartstroke,” and “Terrible Things.”
