Teen heartthrob Austin Mahone made headlines of a different kind, an unfortunate health scare, a few weeks ago when he announced he had a blood clot in his throat.

Doctors pointed to lack of rest, proper nutrition and exercise as causes for the ailment, and Mahone says his recovery has involved lots of downtime and liquids, according to Rolling Stone. "Every time I would eat solid food it would hurt so bad, so I was drinking a bunch of Muscle Milk and not getting actual meals," he says with a laugh. "When I was in the doctor's office, all I wanted was a cheeseburger."

People Magazine reported upon his arrival at the hospital, doctors immediately prescribed antibiotics and lots of rest. "The doctor said whenever I do a lot of traveling I don't get much rest," says Mahone. "I'm waking up at 3 a.m., then going all day, then not going to sleep until 12. He said I need a lot more rest, and I just need a break."

On his much-needed hiatus, Mahone spent his time researching for his upcoming tour, which was delayed due to the health scare, though new dates have been confirmed on his website "I spent most of my time in my room," he says. "I watched YouTube videos of people I look up to, so next time I do a show, I can do better and be better."

Mahone definitely has his plans filling up quickly with an appearance scheduled at KISS-FM’s Jingle Ball on December 2. He has more tour dates scheduled through March 2014, and will be releasing a new single next week, November 10, called “Banga! Banga!”.
