Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in Alabama was given the all-clear Sunday evening after a written bomb threat earlier in the afternoon forced an airport evacuation.
The airport said on their Facebook page that local authorities received a threat at about 4 p.m. local time, and they had evacuated the terminal.
A spokeswoman from the airport, Toni Bast, said in a statement that the threat was found by an employee in the form of a handwritten note in one of the men’s restrooms, reports CNN. The airport was promptly evacuated and more than a dozen flights leaving the airport were delayed.
Several other flights were diverted to another airport in Huntsville, Alabama, reports Reuters.
The entire building was then searched by police with bomb-sniffing dogs, who cooperated with FBI bomb technicians in the search. No threat was ultimately found within the airport.
The airport was then cleared to allow people back inside and went back into the process of reopening at about 6 p.m. local time. Police were still examining the note at the time.
This bomb threat came only two days after a man entered Los Angeles International airport and opened fire with a rifle, killing a TSA officer and wounding three others.
