After an evacuation that lasted over two hours due to a bomb threat, the Birmingham, Alabama airport reopened Sunday.
According to Reuters, the threat, received around 4 p.m., was a false alarm. "It ended up being nothing," said Birmingham Police Sergeant Johnny Williams.
The airport had been shut down due to a note in a bathroom hinting at a bomb in the terminal, which an airport employee found. After letting bomb-sniffing dogs search the entire airport and police investigations, nothing was found.
USA Today reports that after a thorough investigation by airport bomb technicians and local police, airport operations resumed at around 6:30 p.m.
During the shutdown, outgoing flights were delayed while incoming flights were diverted to an airport in Huntsville, Alabama. People were ushered and told to wait outside the airport.
The Birmingham airport bomb threat occurred just two days after a Transportation Security Administration agent was shot and killed, and several people injured at the Los Angeles International Airport.
