Halloween is a day when kids and adults dress up, as real people or fictional characters, and have fun. However, one school felt one of their students crossed the line by dressing up as Jesus Christ.
Fox News reported that Marshon Sanders, a senior at Highland Park High, was pulled from class and told to remove his costume because some teachers found it offensive.
Marshon Sanders came to school dressed as Jesus Christ for Halloween and while other kids were dressed as Biblical characters such as Moses, he was told to remove his.
According to ClickonDetroit the school district released a statement saying they thought people would look at the costume as though Sanders was poking fun at Christianity.
“The school district released a statement saying, "We initially were concerned that the costume could be offensive to religious sensibilities. Upon further review, we realized the student did not intend to be offensive. Therefore, the school communicated to the student that he could wear the costume."
However, Sanders’ mother, Angenetta Frison, is not buying it. Marshon was not poking fun, but expressing his beliefs as a Christian, "I wanted to be Jesus because I just got baptized and so I felt like, why not? He's the most influential person in my life."
Last Halloween, Sanders came to school dressed as rapper Snoop Dogg, but was not pulled from class or told to remove his costume, so what made this costume such a controversy?
