The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is looking like it will set new records thanks to Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Disney's Frozen.
Disney's latest film, Frozen is heading towards the best opening on Thanksgiving weekend (which is Wednesday-Sunday), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is on its way to possible earn $90 million, which would easily beat Pixar's Toy Story 2's $80.1 million.
Though those numbers are great for Disney, Lionsgate's Catching Fire is on its way to $100 million in its second weekend and the best Thanksgiving weekend box office gross. The current record-holder is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, which earned $82.4 million.
Catching Fire brought in $14.9 million on Thanksgiving itself, while Frozen followed on its heels with $10.8 million, Deadline reports.
Other films in theaters this weekend are looking at much weaker numbers as everyone is flocking to see Catching Fire and Frozen. Thor: The Dark World is likely to earn $13.5 million for the five day period and Homefront will earn about $8.8 million.
