Chris Pratt is going from sitcom star to future blockbuster Hollywood icon. He’s already starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and now he’s reportedly in talks to star in Universal’s Jurassic World. The project is the fourth film in the Jurassic Park franchise and is expected to hit theaters in 2015.
Talks with the Parks and Recreation star are still in the very early stages, stressed TheWrap, which first reported the news. It was also confirmed by Variety and other sites. Pratt has already completed filming on Guardians, so the only obstacle to him getting the part is his commitment to the NBC TV show, which has earned low ratings and its renewal can’t be assumed.
Josh Brolin had been interested in the lead role, but that deal didn’t go through, so Pratti s the studio’s second choice.
If Prat joins, his co-stars will be Nick Robins, Bryce Dallas Howard and child actor Ty Simpkins. Lifer of Pi actor Irrfan Khan is also reportedly being considered for a supporting part.
Jurassic World is being directed by Colin Trevorrow, who directed Pratt’s Parks co-star Aubrey Plaza in his first film, Safety Not Guaranteed. Trevorrow co-wrote the script with Derek Connolly, but the plot is currently unknown other than the fact that there will be dinosaurs.
Jurassic World si being produced by Frank Marshall, Pat Crowley and Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two films in the franchise. It hits theaters on June 12, 2015.
Pratt is a rising star in Hollywood, especially after his role in Moneyball. He also appeared in Zero Dark Thirty and will be seen in Delivery Man and Her. He also voices the main character in The LEGO Movie. Guardians, in which he plays Star-Lord, hits theaters on Aug. 1, 2014.
