Cirque du Soleil reports that they have temporarily removed the “Wheel of Death” stunt from their show in Las Vegas following an acrobatic accident last weekend.
An unnamed man was injured last Friday night during the Zarkana show in Las Vegas when he slipped off the spinning wheel.
According to the Associated Press, Cirque spokeswoman Anna Paladie said the acrobat should be released from the hospital within the next few days.
In the “Wheel of Death” act, two performers execute tricks while balancing on a pair of spinning wheels that rotate high above the stage.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently fined the acrobatic circus company, as well as MGM Grand, for an accident during a June show that resulted in the death of 31-year-old Sarah Guillot-Guyard.
“Safety is always a top priority for us and for Cirque,” said MGM spokeswoman Mary Hynes said of the latest injury. “Cirque has one of the best safety records in the entire entertainment industry and we’re confident they are already looking into this incident.”
