The Coca Cola company announced last Friday that the soda corporation was donating $2.5 million in a mixture of cash and in-kind contributions to help the Philippines as the country recovers from Typhoon Haiyan.
Chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent said, "We would like to express our deepest sympathies to those affected by this tragic disaster in the Philippines." He added, "Our dedicated associates are on the ground offering assistance, and we are committed to helping the communities rebuild."
After Haiyan hit, Coca-Cola Philippines and Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines sprang into action and began providing water to help with recovery efforts for those affected.
"We wish to express our heartfelt solidarity to all Filipinos in these difficult times," Coca-Cola FEMSA CEO Carlos Salazar Lomelin said. "It is in times like these when the Philippines sets an example of resilience and good spirit, and where our values of supporting ourselves as a team come at its best."
The relief effort has been spread out with the Coca-Cola Foundation in Atlanta providing $1 million to the American Red Cross and the Coca-Cola Philippines donating $1 million in assistance. The corporation has already donated 129,000 cases of water towards the communities hit by Haiyan.
