A father and stepmother have been charged in the murder of a 10-year-old girl who was found burned in a trashcan in Georgia.
According to CNN, police discovered the girl’s body on Saturday in a trachcan in the apartment complex where she, her father, and her stepmother lived. The father was the one who pointed the body out to police.
The man, who has reportedly been identified as Eman Moss, called Gwinnet County police at about 4 a.m. Saturday morning, telling them that he was suicidal. He also told the dispatcher that his daughter had consumed a chemical and had died from it.
When police arrived at the apartment complex, they found the man standing next to a trashcan in one of the complex’s breezeways. They opened the trashcan and found a child’s badly burned body inside.
The child was later identified as Eman Moss’s daughter, 10-year-old Emani Moss.
The Eman Moss and his wife Tiffany Moss were then arrested and have been charged with felony murder, cruelty to a child, as well as concealing a body, reports Reuters. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death and her placement inside the trashcan.
"It's a major deal, a major deal - the nature of this crime," said Pam McDaniel, a police communications supervisor.
