Disney will be collaborating with writer William Goldman to bring The Princess Bride to the stage.
The latest attempt to bring the story to the stage will not be related to the last attempt back in 2007 that fell apart, Variety reports. It fell apart over financial rights issues between Goldman and composer Adam Guettel.
Goldman wrote both the 1973 novel around a grandfather telling a story to his sick grandson about live and adventure in a fairy tale land, as well as the screenplay for the 1987 movie that featured Cary Elwes, Billy Crystal and Mandy Patinkin and was directed by Rob Reiner.
The plans are still early as there has not been any creative team or production timelines announced as of yet.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn helped get the deal done. "My involvement in The Princess Bride goes back to 1987 and it has always been close to my heart," the chairman said.
"For all those years and a few more, I've been friends with the brilliant Bill Goldman, and to now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true."
