The Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor 50th anniversary special managed to score record ratings for BBC America, as the special was simulcast in the U.S. and U.K.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the special nabbed 2.4 million viewers, which was an all-time record for the program on BBC America. The show managed 3.6 million viewers, with numbers from the encore included. The ratings pale of course to the U.K., where 10.2 million watched the special.

The show also managed a new best for the demographic of adults 25-54, where it was watched by 1.2 million viewers. Using Doctor Who as a lead-in, the network also launched to record numbers for new show Atlantis. The fantasy drama brought in 838,000 viewers, making it the highest ever start for a series on BBC America.

The Doctor Who special also was shown in some theaters, where in 11 U.S. cities it sold out, Variety reports.

While the show also did well on Twitter, making the BBC the No. 1 cable network, it still lost to Strictly Come Dancing, which managed to average nearly 11.7 million viewers.

The 50th anniversary special featured three actors who played the Doctor through the years, Matt Smith, David Tennant and Tom Baker.
