Downton Abbey has been a wildly successful international hit. It is popular, not only in Great Britain, but also in the United States. So, it is not really a huge surprise that the series has, in fact, been renewed for another season.
According to PBS, the fourth season of Downton Abbey doesn’t get its first airing date in the United States until January 5, 2014. The complete fourth season has already aired across the pond and the show even has a Christmas special on the way. The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that Downton Abbey will now get a fifth season. It was not a given that the showed would be renewed, but not at all a surprise. As for the series’ future beyond a fifth season, no one is really certain if there will be a sixth season. A few of the cast members have been lost over the last year.
Downton Abbey has a very large viewership around the world and gets pretty high ratings in the United States.
