Author E.L. James is admitting to being “terrified” of what’s ahead when it comes to the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation.

James said she never anticipated this kind of success, and she feels like she owes it to the fans of the books to make the film perfect.

“There is this passionate fandom; we need to get this right for them,” she told Entertianment Weekly before production starts in Vancouver.

James, who has since written another book but won’t reveal what it’s about or if she will publish it, said she knows fans will hold her “responsible” if the film is a dud.

She admits she understands, because she comes from a place of “fandom” as well. “What I’d really like to be doing is sitting down in a little room writing my next book. I miss it so much,” she said.

“I’m on the edge, quite frankly. Jumping off. I’ve had two years of this now. When you first start doing this [promoting your work], you don’t know how you are going to handle it. I could have been a complete fame whore — everyone wanted to interview me. But it holds no interest to me, being on TV, all that stuff. So I’ve tried to pull back,” she continued. “Because frankly, I’m shy, even though people don’t believe that. And I really miss my family…and my dog. In the last three months, I’ve been home for about two weeks.”

It was revealed this week that the release date for the film has been pushed back to Valentine’s Day 2015. The film stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Dornan replaced Charlie Hunnam, who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
