It turns out that not all of the key roles in Universal and Focus Features’ adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey have been cast. Actress Eloise Mumford has joined to play Anastasia Steele’s roommate.
Mumford, whose credits include the short-lived TV series Lone Star and The River, will play Kate Kavanagh, a role that producers considered a main priority after they cast Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey, reports Variety. But then Hunnam left, so they focused on finding a replacement, eventually hiring Jamie Dornan.
In addition to Dornan, Dakota Johnson is starring as Anastasia and Jennifer Ehle was cast as her mother. Luke Grimes (True Blood) was hired to be Christian’s brother.
Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing, with Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti as producers. The first script was penned by Kelly Marcel and it is based on the first book in E.L. James’ erotic trilogy.
THR reports that Mumford was cast in the ABC pilot Reckless and Universal’s Not Safe for Work, which will likely go straight to home video.
